Snacking on This Weekend
Ummm, this whole weekend is full of music. Chock full of music. If we keep going like this, we might begin to be the music city we keep dreaming of.
The Secret to a Happy Ending (Free!)
THE SECRET TO A HAPPY ENDING documents the Drive-By Truckers and their congregation of fans as they explore tales of human weakness and redemption. Filmmaker Barr Weissman followed the band during three critical years of touring and recording — years in which the band struggles to overcome the trauma of divorce and survives a near breakup. SECRET combines band interviews, behind-the-scenes footage on the road and in the studio, along with legendary live performances. Reflective of the band’s roots in Alabama and Georgia, the film explores the changing American South — its tangled past and strange beauty.
Paleface blew the roof off the room the last time they stopped by the Rookery. Well, they’re back this Thursday for a second heaping helping of good times. An American musician and artist, Paleface is currently on tour as high-energy indie-folk three piece band, in support of his Ramseur Records follow up One Big Party. Paleface celebrated the release with a special guest-performance alongside The Avett Brothers at NYC’s Radio City Music Hall, followed by US and Europe tours.
FREE SHOW! 2 sets of great music and $8 bottomless mugs! Stereo Reform is an innovative rock trio with roots on both the east and west coast. The band originated in Charleston, SC and shortly thereafter moved Los Angeles, CA. SR left L.A. for a year on the road, and now calls Greenville, SC home. All along the way Stereo Reform has absorbed and embraced change. Inspired by the likes of Franz Ferdinand, The Beatles, Ghostland Observatory, The Average White Band and more, Stereo Reform continues to learn and grow. Over the past few years Stereo Reform has taken the loosely definable “rock” sound and blended dance, funk, and pop to create what they now call Dance-a-Funk-a-Rock-a-Tronic…a sound that continues to evolve.

Mama’s Love is an American Rock band formed in Athens, Georgia in 2007. Like the town where the band resides, their sound is progressive with hints of classic tones. The Dirty Doves, a local band, will be bringing their southern rock jams!
Love this band. Sterling Waite pulls double duty with Back City Woods, but it doesn’t take away from the Cotton Avenue Hustlers. There is foot stompin’, and banjo strummin’ and lots of fun to be had at the ‘Bird.

I’m really excited to see all of these bands. The first time I saw Modern Skirts was in Atlanta at Smith’s Olde Bar. It was in a line-up with Warm in the Wake. It was a New Year’s Eve show and the first time I’d ever seen them. It made me feel like Macon was something special when they made their way down here. It’s sad to hear they are breaking up, but it’s nice we get one last show with them.
One of my favorite band returns to Macon! Andrew, Dan, and Liam bring their particular brand of atmospheric, emotional, indie rock while locals One Horse Parade with their atmospheric dance beats, layered guitars and rock oriented beats.
